Job Summary:
Delivers high quality, sanitary, and accurate milk orders. Responsible for maintaining a clean, organized, safe patient environment and assists with patient care activities such as taking vital signs, feeding, bathing and daily living activities. Collaborates with the healthcare team and provides compassionate and empathic family-centered care for the patients and families.

Qualifications

Minimum Job Requirements:
  • C.N.A Certification-active in the State of Florida
  • American Heart Association (AHA) BLS
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • High School Education or equivalent preferred
  • Able to follow simple instructions to accomplish repetitive tasks.
  • Able to perform mathematical and fortification calculations.
  • Able to convert specific weights in an accurate and precise manner.
  • Able to relate cooperatively and constructively with patients, families and co-workers.
  • Basic proficiency in MS Word, Excel and Outlook preferred
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively work in a collaborative environment and follow the direction of the Registered Nurse and/or Nursing Leader.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and collaborates in a team environment.
Job Specific Duties:
  • Responsible for communicating with medical, nursing and nutrition team for clarifications and prioritization of expressed breast milk orders. 
  • Creates labels according to MCHS standards for expressed breast milk.
  • Sanitizes work area prior to and post preparation of milk.
  • Prepares, labels and stores expressed breast milk in accordance with policy.
  • Requisitions and inspects supplies and materials in order to maintain inventory levels and to ensure that standards of quality are met.
  • Arranges milk prep rooms for ease of product visibility and according to inspection standards (Food Safety & Sanitation, EOC).
  • Rotates fresh milk to freezers to prevent expiration. Monitors prepared milk and discards if expired.
  • Measures/weighs fortification ingredients using a gram scale for powder products and a graduated cylinder, beaker or sterile syringe for liquid products.
  • Utilizes the standard recipe charts for preparation of human milk or uses the recipe provided in the comments section of the order.
  • Utilizes aseptic technique for preparation of all special mixed milk or modulars for human milk.
  • Maintains a strict schedule in order to complete the preparation and distribution of milk.
  • Follows appropriate storage time for opened products, utilizing opened/expiration labels for all opened containers being stored.
  • Performs all delivery of expressed breast milk to patient’s room.
  • Responsible for properly utilizing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Maintains necessary logbooks for utilization of donor human milk.
  • Assists patients with activities of daily living to include bathing, personal hygiene, nutrition and comfort measures, changing bed linens, and diapers.
  • Performs vital signs, heights, weights, head circumference & other measurements and records the results in the Electronic Health Record according to nursing and hospital policies & procedures.
  • Informs RN of pertinent information and/or communications all significant changes in patient condition or behavior.
  • Restock supplies such as gloves, gowns, linen, medical equipment, assists with room preparation and turnover.
  • Maintains patient rooms and nursing station clean at all times.
  • Greets and welcomes patients, families and visitors. Communicates information regarding MCHS services and delivers excellent and timely service and support.
Common Duties:
  • Maintains accountability by ensuring compliance thru timely completion of licensures, certifications, all competencies, health requirements (PPD, N95, Flu, etc.), and education requirements.
  • Maintains accountability and timekeeping expectations as outlined by MCHS Timekeeping and Attendance policy & procedures.  Ensures behavior is compliant with communication standards. 
  • Ensures behavior meets and/or exceeds targeted service scores as measured by the Service Index and/or the internal departmental service survey.
